Who sees You from Afar?

Mark 6:45-52

There are times that we feel that God is really absent and distant from us. After some of His wonderful works happened in our life or though us, then suddenly we will feel our aloofness from our Master. This experience happened in the life of the disciples. After so many things that they had witnessed and even experienced themselves, suddenly Jesus would let them go all alone by boat to another place without Him. This sometimes happens to us, God would let us go first to the place without Him. So out of fear and security, we always say to God, if you won’t go with me I won’t go, this was the appeal of Moses to God. But anyway the disciples still went their way, roaring the boat, and Jesus was left on the land doing His stuff. Then while in the middle of the sea, they met a strong wind that troubles their journey to the other side and Jesus saw them from far. They were battling this strong wind but could not.

Our life is really something that we are fighting for, to live, and to thrive, that we may cross over to the next place where God wants us to be. But it really difficult to battle life without someone greater than us. The majority of followers of Christ were fishermen, so they knew what to do, they knew how they should roar so that they would not struggle, fighting against the wind. However, their skills and ability did not work though they were many. We do the same in our lives, we struggle so much trying to win almost everything in our own ways but it does not work.

Amazingly, even from afar, Jesus saw their battle, and He decided to come to the rescue. He walked on water towards them. Jesus sees everything that you fighting for. Jesus knows it all and He cares so much that is why He is coming your way walking on your troubled water towards you. Can you recognize Him from afar? Because He did recognize His disciples. He was not really distant from them. His eyes were ever before them. The same He is doing to you and me. Can we recognize His coming? The disciples did not. How it could be? It might be so dark so they could not see His face and tell that it was Jesus or they were not that so intimate yet to Him so they could not recognize the shape of His body, the clothe He always wear, His power.

This is why we need to be intimate to Him so that when the sea of life is in trouble, we can recognize that it is Him walking on the water to help us. We would not mistakenly cause that He is a ghost just like what happened to the disciples. He is not a spirit or force trying to scare us. He is God walking towards you, to get into your boat, so He could bring peace in your troubled circumstances. That’s what He did when He said, do no be afraid, be of glad, it is I. And they let Him in their boat and the wind cease and the sea became at peace.

When Jesus says, be of good cheer, it is an encouragement to celebrate because the God who performs many miracles is here. When He says, do not frighten, He is sending us security. And when He says, it is I, He is telling me that I can do everything in my own power. Will you let Him get inside your boat so you could journey this life in peace and security because you know that He is not really at distance but rather He is roaring with you and directing your life to the place He wants you to be.
Let us always remember that He sees us from afar but the story did not end with Jesus just looking and observing the disciples paddling against the strong wind. He saw; He came; He got inside their boat; He calmed the storm so they could reach their new destination. I believe is the same thing He is doing to you and me, He is in your boat now, let Him calm your anxiety, worries, and everything that troubles you. If He is not yet in your boat but you can see that He is walking your troubled water, invite Him to get inside your boat and quiet your soul and bring you to the place where he wants you to be.
God bless everyone!
